Can I Paint Right After Sanding
After painting something I typically like to wait at least a week so the paint is cured however this can depend on the paint thickness and your climate.
Can i paint right after sanding. In this video we show you how to color-sand and buff a fresh paint job to get that mirror finish you are looking for. Remember when sanding anything its always important to take it slow. Our Handcrafted Life suggests using a 320 grit sandpaper if you plan on your piece being very smooth with a clear glass or glossy finish.
During the winter months it could take up to a week for the drywall joint compound to properly cure. When finished with all of your sanding carefully wipe down and vacuum up all traces of dust and debris before you introduce primer and paint into the picture. If you plan on just painting your wood you can stop at a 120 grit sandpaper.
If you want to paint over clear coat get out your sanding block and wet sandpaper first. Of course this only applies if the body panel is. You can paint over wood paneling without having to fear that it will peel off.
For outside and inside corners use paper with metal beads such as softline beads made by CSR Synko. The paint needs to be hard so the sanding wont cause damage or imperfections in the final finish. It is good to use a shop vac to clean the surface between sanding grits removing the larger grit particles from the wood before sanding with the next higher grit.
Then wipe down the areas where you sanded and add another layer of paint. To fix this bleeding through the paint mistake I simply decided to paint the dresser a lovely ombre pink which did the trick to hide the mahogany stain bleeding through. This means you may have to sand the finish down and start over.
While blowing the dust off with compressed air removes the dust it also mixes it into the air so some of it can settle back onto the surface and so you can breath it. Preparing for paint is a very important step and depending on the relative humidity in the home ie. Choosing the right grit for your needs will depend on the task at hand.
