My chipper is only rated to 3 and Ive reduced lots of stuff with the biggest volume reduction being the small stuff the shredder eats for a living. Not only is this a convenient way to dispose of garden refuse but it can also save.

I bought one of the home owner chipper shredders for cheap. In this case it is harder to make a clear economic or environmental case. These by-products could be sold for cash and in any event you can make back the money you spent on a purchase.
